Questioning the Assumptions

Adam Gordon Bell

June 4th

Hey,

It's June now, and I have a new episode out here:

https://corecursive.com/hedy-with-felienne-hermans/

I've been telling friends and colleagues about this episode for several weeks. Whenever someone asks me how the podcast is going, I jump into it:

Ok, Imagine this: A burned-out academic seeks renewal by teaching underprivileged 12-year-olds to program. In doing so, she risks her career and builds a programming language that spreads around the world and brings her constant hate mail.

Felienne Hermans hosted Software Engineering Radio back when I was also an occasional host. Some may know her because of her book, The Programmer's Brain, but few know how that book is just one small piece of a much larger story.

The larger story questions the assumptions of how programming languages work and how people learn. But it's also just about struggling to find meaning in your job and finding a path to a place where work seems meaningful and valuable again.

So yeah, as I said, I can't stop talking about it. You should give it a listen.

Thanks,

Adam
