Serenity OS

Hello CoRecursive newsletter subscriber,

It's February now, and I have a new episode out here:

https://corecursive.com/serenity-os-with-andreas-kling/

It's a story about building an operating system, but so much more. My guest was Andreas Kling. Andreas struggled with addiction and was very willing to share his struggles in the hopes that they might help others.

Besides that, I learned a lot from Andreas about taking on a massive project. The Patreon episode with him is going to be good. No one is better at explaining the benefits of owning the entire software stack. The lessons he learned while working at Apple are probably under-discussed.

Find that on my Patreon page on the 15th.

Podcast Changes:

One thing that I probably spent way more time on than anyone might imagine is figuring out how to incorporate intro and outro music into the podcast in a way that felt natural.

One consistent piece of feedback I get on the podcast has been that it isn't always clear when the introduction is over, and the main story is starting. Same for the ending.

I paid to get some professional feedback on the podcast ( thank you, Patreon supporters), and it turns out that most podcasts do this with transitioning with music. I'm sure this is surprising to no one, but it was helpful to have it explained to me. I used to have intro and outro music in the podcast in the past, but I was not too fond of it, so I was hesitant to add music back in. But after spending some time tweaking things and finding some music I liked, music is back. I hope its use is very unintrusive, but if it's not, bear with me.

( Incidentally, I reached out to Jack Rysider of Darknet Diaries, and he said he gets constant complaints about the music and sound design he does. Music in podcasts is a polarizing thing, I guess  )

So let me know what you think. It's always exciting to hear from listeners! I read and respond to all the replies.

Thanks, Adam

That after school program changed his life in pretty profound ways. Today's episode is all...

Adam Gordon Bell April 2nd Hey! I have a new podcast episode out about this graph: I know that doesn't sound exciting, but it actually is! https://corecursive.com/briffa-sep98-e/ That is a famous climate change graph that caused a lot of controversy, with newspapers and news shows accusing scientists of fraud and deception. While scientists claimed they were victims of a targeted attack. I got a little obsessed with what actually happened. It happened 15 years ago, but the code is still out...
