Hello CoRecursive newsletter subscriber,
It's June now, and I have a new This-Day-in-History episode out here:
This episode is a peek into the world of mainframes and how idioms shape what we do as programmers. It was fun for me to make, and it all started on Twitter. Let me know what you think of the debate and where we landed. Did I get you to change your mind?
I got a lot of positive feedback on the LISP in space episode. In fact, David Cassel of TheNewStack wrote a companion piece on it. Also, some exciting discussions broke out on hacker news among people familiar with the topic, including Ron and some other LISPers.
The exclusive supporters interview with Ron, about his time at google is amazing. And if I get enough people on the newsletter I may share it out to give everyone who has been thinking about supporting me on Patreon a taste of what they are missing.

The other big thing that happened last month was my post on "Line vs. Staff' software engineers took off in a big way online and led to many in-depth discussions. So I will be diving into this topic in more depth on the Patreon feed.
The gist is that working at a tech company as a developer vs. working at a non-tech as a developer company feel very different.
When I took a business class, they called these roles line vs. staff roles, and I think the differences between these two types of positions have a significant impact on what the job is like, even if they are doing the same kind of work.
Thanks,
Adam

Adam Gordon Bell April 2nd Hey! I have a new podcast episode out about this graph: I know that doesn't sound exciting, but it actually is! https://corecursive.com/briffa-sep98-e/ That is a famous climate change graph that caused a lot of controversy, with newspapers and news shows accusing scientists of fraud and deception. While scientists claimed they were victims of a targeted attack. I got a little obsessed with what actually happened. It happened 15 years ago, but the code is still out...
Adam Gordon Bell Oct 2nd Hey! I have a new podcast episode is out: https://corecursive.com/one-million-checkboxes-with-nolen-royalty/ It's at the intersection of coding, game building, art and online trolls. But it's also about how the internet used to be more fun, and how Nolen Royalty is trying to bring us back to the era of Boaty McBoatface I...
