Zig, Andrew Kelly and Self Funding

Hi CoRecursive newsletter subscriber,

The August episode is out and it's really good. It's an interview with Zig programming language creator Andrew Kelly:

Andrew is has been creating Zig, the programming language he always wanted for 5 years and the story behind how he started going and eventually left his job full time to work on it full-time is amazing. We also get into the details of what makes Zig different from other programming languages and why Andrew wants to replace C as the default language operating systems and embedded devices are written in.

One thing I learned from talking with Andrew is to not be afraid to ask for support for your projects. I've now setup a patreon page of my own. If you want to support the podcast and encourage me to make more episodes then setting up a monthly donation on patreon is the best way to do it. The page is here:

The last episode about SQLite was very popular. Only the Unix episode and the David Heinemeier Hansson episode have gotten that many listens in the first 30 days. The reason for its success is 90% that Richard is an excellent story teller. The episode even got a news article covering it on thenewstack which is a first for me:

Since the last email I've written an article about how I managed to beat Python's default sorting method. It was a lot of fun to write and I would have never thought to try dropping down to C were it not for all the podcast interviews I've been doing with performance oriented developers :

Thanks

Adam

Adam Gordon Bell April 2nd Hey! I have a new podcast episode out about this graph: I know that doesn't sound exciting, but it actually is! https://corecursive.com/briffa-sep98-e/ That is a famous climate change graph that caused a lot of controversy, with newspapers and news shows accusing scientists of fraud and deception. While scientists claimed they were victims of a targeted attack. I got a little obsessed with what actually happened. It happened 15 years ago, but the code is still out...
